John E. Hoover, 75, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday (September 20, 2017) at UPMC Chautauqua WCA. He was born in Warren, PA on January 23, 1942 the son of Ed Hoover and Florence Walters Shirley. John was employed as a crane operator for the former Weinstein Scrap Yard and was previously employed for Bradford Township and Goodman Brothers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving, camping and spending time with his family. John is survived by his siblings, Cheryl L. Leak, Lakewood, Ira and Roger Shirley, Bradford, PA., Patrick Shirley, Grand Valley, PA., Wilma Buchanan, Falconer, Bill Shirley, Jamestown and Joe Hoover, Corry, PA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Rhodes, Patricia Holmes, Ruth Enright and Rosalie Hough and by two brothers, Edgar and Herman Shirley Jr. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (October 1, 2017) at the home of his niece, April Yanik, 123 Busti Sugar Grove Rd., Jamestown, NY.
