Obituary of James E Girts

James E. Girts, 78, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday (August 17, 2017) at the Warren Manor, Warren, PA. He was born in Jamestown on November 11, 1938 the son of Robert and Esther Powell Girts. He had owned and operated Panther II Transportation a driver for Roberts Express, warehouse manager for JC Penney and owned and operated his own dump truck. He was also with law enforcement for over 6 years with the Sheriff's Department, Lakewood Village and Town of Ellicott. He served with the US Navy Seabees from 1956 to 1962 and was a life member of the Fluvanna Fire Department and a former member of AmVets. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Gerard) Raab, Jamestown, a brother, Robert L. (Pauline) Girts, Jamestown and a sister, Bonnie (Edwin) Nickerson, Scottsdale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Christofferson whom he married on September 16, 1961. A celebration of life service will be held at the Fluvanna Fire Hall, Station#1, 3536 Fluvanna Ave. on Saturday, August 26 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Fluvanna Fire Department, 3536 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
