So sorry to hear about Dick. He was such a lovely brother and friend. Will look forward to seeing him in the new system soon where there will be no more sickness and death and we no longer will have to lose our loved ones.

Dear family of Richard: My heart goes out to you in your loss. Dick was one of my favorite customers at the Basket Company, where he would come get candy every few weeks. I enjoyed him so much because of his bright personality and smile. We discovered that he had been to my home years before when he covered a recipe column for the P-J that featured me.
Once, when he came to the candy store, I told him how nice and cheery he was, and he brightened (even more), leaned a little closer and said "tell me again, please!", with a big smile and mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
He thought the world of his family and grandson, and missed his wife so.
I will miss him, too.
May many happy memories of a precious man be yours,
Joyce

Dick was a long ago friend of mine. Going back to the days when I was Fire Chief in Celoron Dick and I worked on many Fire Prevention projects as he was the lead Post-Journal photographer. He was a kind and gentle man and when he appeared on a fire or accident scene he was totally unobtrusive – very unlike every other reporter or photographer that showed up. I therefore would often give him special access – and those pictures we would use to get a message out. The one I recall best was a kitchen fire at the home of a fellow firefighter. The children were playing with a zippo style lighter and when it got hot they dropped it onto the kitchen table, then ran away. Unlike bic style lighters, and similar to matches – it doesn’t go out. It started the table on fire and eventually the kitchen. We made a good stop and when I did my investigation the lighter was melted down into the table in the open position. I brought Dick inside and he took some great, well definitioned pictures that clearly showed in the newspaper exactly what happened. We turned that into a short series on kids playing with lighters and matches and the danger of open flames such as candles.
Kurt, and Sarah and Alex you have many deepest condolences. They don’t make them like Dick anymore.
Ron.

Dear Kurt
Please accept my sincere sympathies at the loss of both your parents. A few years ago, while driving down Winch Road, to show my son our old home, we stopped when we saw your parents in the yard. It was truly a heartwarming visit and a memory I cherish. They spoke with loving pride of you and your family.
You may not remember me as well as you do Mickey, but when I think of (pine for) Lakewood and the days of youth, the Hallbergs are among my fond memories.
Love and Prayers to you and your family
Marilyn (Acquisto) Urzetta

To Richard's family and loved ones; I'd like to offer my husband, Lee Kellogg, Lakewood Police Dept., gone 21 years, and myself, [worked with Richard in 1961-63 at the P-J[; our combined sincere sympathies to a wonderful man; and what a fitting, wonderful tribute to him in today's Post-Journal. His talents and self will be missed for all time. Stay strong; I know you will.
