Obituary of Douglas O. Mapes

Rev. Douglas O. Mapes, 88, of Alvin James Drive Ashville, passed away Tuesday January 5, 2016 in WCA Hospital. He was born February 1, 1927 in Malone, NY the son of the late Owen and Esther Baker Mapes. Doug retired as a general handyman and Housing Project Manager, working in the Worcester, Massachusetts area for many years. He was devoted to studying the Bible and prophecy and shared his beliefs with many on the streets. Doug was also an avid fisherman and had a great sense of humor. He could be considered a scholar and a jokester. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Nelson Mapes whom he married June 3, 1995; eight children; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; a brother, Herbert Mapes; three sisters, Nancy Seekins; Patsy Buncy; and Ruth Ann. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Jean Smith; his second wife, the former Virginia Hopper; and a brother, Fred Mapes and a step daughter, Kristy Masterson. No funeral service or visitation will be observed. The Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
