Obituary of Walter J. Magara

Walter J. Magara, Jr. of 3017 5E Garfield Road Jamestown, passed away July 21, 2016 of natural causes in his home. He was 80 years old. Born April 17, 1936 in Salamanca, he was the son of Walter and Francis Kosloski Magara. On July 7, 1962 he married Margaret "Peg" Delorey of Concord, MA., who predeceased him in 1968. They had two children together Steven and Jeffery Magara. Walt Magara was a graduate of Salamanca High School. He was a Marine Corp veteran who served at Camp Lejeune, NC, as a Corporal from 1956 to 1958. He worked at his own construction firm for over 40 years in the Jamestown area, and was well known in the community for the pride he took in his worksmanship. In his free time, he enjoyed playing in local pool tournaments and qualified for the championships in Las Vegas. He also enjoyed working on his cars, playing cards at the casino, and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his two children Jeffery (Cassandra) of Jamestown, their children Jeremy (Granddaughter Merla of Santa Barbara, CA), Jordan, and Eric. Also son Steven of Collingswood, NJ, his sisters Shirley Emerson of Ellicottville and Rosemary (Joseph) of Knoxville, TN. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his three sisters Betty Sluga, Agnes Guskowski and Catherine McManus, and four brothers Frank, Raymond, Edward, and James Magara. Memorials, if desired, may be made in his name to the American Legion. Condolences will be posted below.
