James Merchant, 85, of 12A Bradmar Circle, Jamestown, died at 11:07 p.m. Friday (December 24, 2010) in the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Jamestown, N.Y. on December 2, 1925 the son of the late Samuel and Jennie Gianresso Merchant. Jim had been employed for five years as a tool maker at the former Crescent Tool and had also been employed at Par-Ket Motors and Bergland Chevrolet and had owned and operated a gas station on Foote Ave. from 1963 to 1971. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a former member of the War Vets and Eagles Lodge # 2145. He served with the US Army during WWII. Jim is survived by his wife Antoinette Caccamise Merchant whom he married on December 20, 1947 in St. James Catholic Church, three sons Timothy (Karen) Merchant, Kernersville, N.C., Daniel ( Ellen) Merchant and Andrew Merchant, Jamestown, two daughters Nancy (Barry) Chipman, Rural Hall, N.C., Laura Tedesco, Alpharetta, Ga., twelve grandchildren Melissa (Eddie) Meadows, Alecia Merchant and Christina ( Ross) Marley, Greensboro, N.C., Rebecca Stone, Michael, Drew and Collin Merchant, Kelley Sabino, Jamestown, N.Y., Tracy Lewis, Alpharetta, Ga., Erin Scott, Tampa, Fl., Kyle (Heather) Newgreen, Charlotte, N.C. and Amy (Bob) Daneke, Atlanta, Ga., sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Merchant and two sisters Kathryn Fusco and Anna Macalusa. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrel G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the church.
