Ralph F. Mead, 86, of 994 Creamery Road, Warren, died peacefully at home at 1:45 a.m. Sunday (June 6, 2010) surrounded by his family.
He was born in Warren on June 5, 1924 the son of Ralph W. and May Homer Mead. Ralph owned and operated Mead Lumber and Sawmill for over forty years. In earlier years, he was employed at the former National Forge and was a graduate of Huff Business School.
He was a life long avid steam rail fan and owned two steam traction engines and was a member of Pioneer Steam And Gas Engine Society of Saegertown, Pa.and America Tree Farm System.
Ralph is survived by a son Edward A. Mead, Warren and a daughter Pamela Mead, Erie, Pa., three granddaughters Kacie, Ashley and Allison Mead, Warren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Smith Mead whom he married on November 26, 1958 at their home and who died on April 24, 1985 and by a brother Leonard J. Mead.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Hubert-Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., Youngsville. The Rev. Marcus Briggs, Warren General Hospital Chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Gross Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m..
