Calvin R. Messinger, 88, formerly of Jamestown, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday (May 12, 2011) in the Warren County Rouse Home. He was born in Sherman, N.Y. on November 30, 1922 the son of Jake and Edith Ray Messinger. Calvin had been employed as a laborer at Pleasant Valley Industries in Clymer and was formerly employed at Dahstroms. He served with the US Army during WWII and fought in the North African Campaign. He was a lifetime member of the Mayville VFW and a member of the Pigeon Racing Club. He is survived by two sons Ray (Bonnie) Messinger, Bear Lake, Pa. and Sam (Donna) Messinger, Busti, 13 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, eleven great great grandchildren, two sisters Virginia Houghton, Ashtabula, Oh. and Eileen Blakenship, Conneaut, Oh.. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Messinger,a son Art Messinger, two brothers Sam and John Messinger, two infant brothers, two sisters Edna Beardsley and Mae Weborg. A private family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Visitation will not be observed. The Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
