Obituary of Ross J. Guido

Ross J. Guido, 93, of 54 Huxley St., Jamestown, died Friday evening (January 7, 2011) in Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa. He was born in Jamestown on September 8, 1917 the son of Nicolo and Genevieve Russo Guido, Ross was employed as a pattern maker at Carborundum for fifteen years and was previously a salesman for Stanmore Liquor for approximately ten years. He was also the owner and operator of the former Fenton Grill in Brooklyn Square. His first job was at Union National Furniture Co. where he learned his love for wood working and enjoyed working with his many friends. He served with the US Army during WWII completing his service as a Technical Sergeant and was deployed in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, The Invasion of Sicily, and Rome-Arno, including the Battle of Monte Cassino. He earned the American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Herman Kent Post #777. Dad was free spirited and shared a great love with family and friends. Throughout his life he maintained an active life style including his daily stop at Wegmans and socializing with his many friends at various downtown locations. He also enjoyed his dog "Billy" and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Ross is survived by his two sons Paul Guido, Jamestown and Daniel Ross Guido,Tucson, AZ., a daughter Ginny Guido Kapelewski, Connecticut, a sister Bess G. Guido, his former wife Martha Guido, cousin Teresa Audino, Jamestown, two nephews Thomas J. Guido, Long Island and Anthony Guido, Dunkirk, N.Y.. He was preceded in death by two brothers Anthony and Thomas Guido. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home And Cremation Services.
