Gloria May Pearson, 89, of Jamestown, died Sunday (May 5, 2013) following a long illness. A native of Jamestown, she was the daughter of immigrant parents Arthur Eckman of Sweden and May Rushton Eckman of England. On March 11, 2013 she made a confession of faith in Christ Jesus her Savior and was baptized. She was an inspector at Marlin Rockwell and retired after more than twenty years of employment. She loved the outdoors, enjoying golf and cross country skiing and continued until her early 80’s. She had a gentle sense of humor and developed many life-long friendships. A compassionate individual, she cared for friends and neighbors when they became debilitated and she had a soft-heart for animals, supporting non-profits such as the Humane Society and North Shore Animal League with regular donations. She is survived by her children, Scott Pearson, Jamestown, Laurie Pearson, Fayetteville, Tenn, Bill (Carol) Pearson, Randolph, a sister Doris Johnson, Jamesville, N.Y., grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelly) Pearson, Adam (Mikki) Pearson, Eli Pearson, Amanda (Mike) Jones, Jacob Pearson and adoptive grandchildren, Manuel Pearson, Brittany Pearson and Rosa (Aaron) Pearson Williams; seven great grandchildren; many loved nieces and nephews and their spouses: several great-nieces and nephews; and a beloved little Pug, Gracie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, George Johnson and her former husband, Walter Pearson in 2006. A graveside memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Lake View Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Kilburn of Zion Covenant Church, will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, N.Y. 14701 The Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation services is in charge of arrangements.
