Obituary of Iris Crawford Johnson

Iris Crawford Johnson, 95, of 10 West 18th St., Jamestown, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday (February 25, 2013) at the Lutheran Home. She was born on August 26, 1917 in Lancaster, NY, the daughter of Jack and Mabel Barnes Crawford. Iris was one of the original pioneers of the Resource Center, volunteering at and advocating for the Center for many years. For most of her life, she was an active member of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a volunteer for the Board of Elections and enjoyed reading, shopping and spending time with her family. Iris will be deeply missed by her surviving husband of seventy-two years, William E. Johnson, whom she married on December 13, 1940 in Olean, NY, a son, David Johnson, Jamestown, two daughters, Diane Peterson, Jamestown and Gaye Huggard, West Hartford, CT, five grandchildren, Dana Scott (and his wife Diana), Phillip Scott, Marla Harris, Jamestown, Robin Craig (and her husband Leroy), Suffolk, VA and Stacey Brown, West Hartford, CT, nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, and a brother, Paul Crawford, Cheektowaga, NY. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynne Johnson, three brothers, Thomas, John and William Crawford, three sisters, Mabel Harrison, Cerise Jones and Thelma Gayton. The funeral service will be held at Noon, Friday in the Chapel of the Lutheran Home. The Rev. Daniel Rumfelt, Chaplain of the Lutheran Home, Rev. Sharon Baugh, of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and Rev. Leroy Walker of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home And Cremation Services. Additional visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the Lutheran Home. Memorials may be made to The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Ave., Celoron, NY, 14720.
