Obituary of Bruce A. Nelson

Bruce A. Nelson, 75, of 303 West Fifth St, Jamestown, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday (December 21, 2014) in the WCA Hospital. He was born in Jamestown on June 16, 1939 the son of Jessie Leach Nelson, Jamestown and the late Lawrence E. Nelson. Bruce attended Jamestown Public Schools and was previously employed as a laborer at Marlin Rockwell and across the country as a Merchant Marine and a property manager. He also worked on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Upon his return to Jamestown, he worked as an emergency contact at the High Rise. He enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, weekly lunches and holiday gatherings with his family, outings with his dear friend, Dorothy “Jerry” Roberson and his friends at the High Rise. In recent weks, he was very appreciative of the nursing care he received at the WCA Hospital. Besides his mother, he is survived by his sons, Larry Nelson and Bruce (Melanie) Nelson, Floral City, Fl., sisters, Jean (Ronald) Pigman, Frewsburg and Joanne E. Nelson, Jamestown, nephews, Scott (Vera) Pigman, Austin, Tx., Aric Pigman, Fayetteville, N.C. and Matthew Pigman, Columbus, Oh., great nieces, Alexia Pigman, Austin, Tx., Scottlyn and Londyn Pigman, Fayetteville, N.C. Several cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Nelson, several cousins and his best friend, Dorothy “Jerry” Roberson. A private family service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Miller of Zion Covenant Church will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
