Rose Montagna Bonfiglio, 86, of 131 Ivy St., Jamestown, passed away peacefully at 2:10 p.m. Saturday (August 23, 2014) at her home, surrounded by her family. A communicant of St. James Catholic Church, she was born in Jamestown on September 20, 1927, the daughter of Sebastian and Mary Contiguglia Montagna. Affectionately known as Nana and Grandma Rose, she was an avid traveler. She spent her winters in Florida and summers with her family in Jamestown. While in West Palm Beach, Fl. she was an active member of Palm Beach Senior Center, where she regularly played cards and bingo, and made arts and crafts for her children and grandchildren. Rose traveled the world, reaching five of seven continents and all fifty states. She was never lacking for a lunch date with her ladies, and enjoyed shopping. She especially enjoyed shopping for jewelry for her family from all her adventures. Family was so important to Rose. She was always up for a game or baking and cooking with her family. She loved to cook, and brought the taste of Sicily to every meal. Holidays were always a special treat for her family and friends, who were likely to have a taste of her delicious cookies, candies and homemade meals. She is survived by her children, Gaetana (Paul) Pochatko, Beverly Hills, Fl., James A. Bonfiglio, Ocean Ridge, Fl., Maria Bonfiglio, and CarmaLee (Barney) Bonfiglio-Davis, all of Jamestown; ten grandchildren, Samantha OdessaRae Goodlow, Samara Rose Bonfiglio, JamieLee Bonfiglio-Davis, Trisha Bonfiglio, Ty Bonfiglio-Davis, and Carlie Bonfiglio, all of Jamestown, Morgan (Ryan) McChesney, Stedman, N.Y., Meghan (Michael) Shaw, Mumford, N.Y., Taryn Rose Dudley and Mitchell Dudley Jr., of Raleigh, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, TaKye Branch, TaVion and TyJai Goodlow, Kinley Bonfiglio, all of Jamestown, and Brett Shaw, Mumford, N.Y., and her nephew, Buzz Montagna of Jamestown, N.Y. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Bonfiglio, whom she married on September 3, 1951 in St. John Catholic Church and who died on November 14, 1981; and her brothers Anthony and Salvatore Montagna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant, assisted by Deacon Daniel Tyler. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received today, Monday, August 25, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. You may send condolences to the family by visiting www.hubertfuneralhome.com.
