Anthony "Sy" Genco, 78, of 2546 Horton Rd., Jamestown, died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday (February 6, 2014) in the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Jamestown on February 17, 1935 the son of Paul and Rosaria Basile Genco. Sy was employed at Jamestown Iron Works for over twenty five years and was a member of Local #600. In 1981, Sy and his son Tony started AJ Genco Machine Shop and they worked side by side for thirty two years. . He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Samuel Derby Post #149 and served in the US Army from 1953-56. Sy's greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would often say to them, "Do you know how much I love you?" He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and passed these passions on to his son and grandsons. Sy loved going to the produce auction with his family and he taught us all everything he knew. He loved flowers and he loved giving them away to everyone. And he made thousands of trips to the apple orchard... none of us ever went without apples or apple pie. Sy is survived by his wife, Angela Puleo Genco, whom he married on November 2, 1956 in Jamestown, a son, Anthony "Tony" (Lisa) Genco, Kennedy, three daughters, Rosary (Spyros) Kolivas, Jamie Genco, Jamestown and Cindy (Rick) Ryan and family, North Platte, Nebraska, four grandchildren, Natalie (Dan) Mendez, East Amherst, Nicole (Jake) Piorkowski, Buffalo, Anthony (AJ) Genco and Colton Howard, Kennedy, five great grandchildren, Kaylee Genco, Panama, Alexzandria and Dominic Genco, Jamestown, Xavier Mendez, East Amherst and Eviania Piorkowski, Buffalo, a brother, John (Lucille) Genco, Jamestown. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Jim and Carl (Mello) Genco and by six sisters, Josephine Engwall, Ida Spitale, Mary Morrelle, Rita Pillittieri, Angie Saullo and Decca Nelson and by a grandson, Anthony Genco, who died on August 9, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery Friends will be received on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:45 p.m..
