Obituary of Sarah E. Sanfilippo

Sarah E. “Sally” Sanfilippo, 94, of 1 Smith Ave., Jamestown, formerly of 136 Prospect St. died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in the comfort of her home.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah (Raffa) Brigiotta.
Sally was a self-employed hairdresser who still worked from her home well into her 80’s. She enjoyed crocheting and baking cookies for all family functions. Sally was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church and was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith.
Sally is survived by her daughter-in-law, Susan Sanfilippo, with whom she made her home, her granddaughter, Amy (Mike) Monaco and her great-grandson, Nathan Monaco, all of Frewsburg. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law Frances and Sam Greco, brother and sister-in-law Sam and Ann Brigiotta, and sister-in-law Mary Bowers, along with many nieces and nephews including Sally Matey and Carolyn SanFilippo, and her close friend and cousin Mary DiNapoli.
The family would like to thank Colleen Ricketts for her devoted care during Sally’s final years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Sanfilippo, whom she married July 4, 1946 and who died July 30, 1991 as well as her son Richard Sanfilippo who died December 11, 2012. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Mary Pizzo in 2005 and her brother Anthony Brigiotta in 2012.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. Monday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m.
