Obituary of William E. Johnson

William E. Johnson, 101, of Jamestown, died at 7:44 am. Wednesday (November 4, 2015) in Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born in Andover, Oh., on December 25, 1913 the son of Quit Allen and Nora Gordon Johnson. Bill was employed as a machinist at Marlin Rockwell for forty years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and a former member of the Jamestown Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and tennis. He is survived by two daughters, Diane Peterson, Jamestown and Gaye Huggard, West Hartford, Ct., five grandchildren, Dana (Diana) Scott, Philip Scott and Marla Harris, Jamestown, Robin( Leroy) Craig Suffolk, Va. and Stacey Brown, West Hartford, Ct., a son, David Allen Johnson, Jamestown; nine grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, a sister, Katherine Thomes, Louisville, Ky., his dog, Buster. He was preceded in death by his wife Iris Crawford Johnson whom he married on December 13, 1940 in Olean, N.Y. and who died on Feb. 25, 2013, by a daughter, Lynne Johnson, three brothers, Robert, Dale and Quit Johnson. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 7, 2015 in the Chapel of Heritage Village, Gerry. The Rev. Reginald Smith, pastor of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and the Rev LeRoy Walker, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Resource Center Foundation, 92 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701. The Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
