Obituary of Valerie D. Rives

Valerie D. Rives, of Jamestown, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Jamestown, NY on May 3rd, 1951, the daughter of William and Dora Rives. Valerie was employed as an administrative specialist at Falconer Glass and Blackstone Advanced Technologies, respectively. She was a member of the Blackwell Chapel AME Zion Church and she was a former member of Zion Tabernacle Church. Valerie had a talent for counseling youth, she loved to read, and she enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach. She could be found enjoying the morning on her front porch, with a cup of black coffee, and a smile. Valerie is survived by her only child; Tawny N. Rives of Jamestown, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Christine. The funeral services will be held on Friday November 6th, 2015 at 7:00pm in the Blackwell Chapel AME Zion Church. The Rev. Reginald Smith will officiate. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Valerie requested that those attending wear light colored clothing in celebration of her life. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
