Obituary of Frances M. Buttafarro Paterniti

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frances Mary Buttafarro Paterniti, 95, formerly of Walnut St., Jamestown, died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday (February 4, 2016) in the Lutheran Retirement Home. She was born in Jamestown on January 20, 1921 the daughter of Thomas and Anna Calanni Buttafarro. Frances was employed at the former GC Murphy Co. as a sales clerk for fifteen years, retiring in 1985. She was previously employed at the former National Worsted Mills. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Frances is survived by a brother, Anthony (Patty) Buttafarro, Jamestown. Frances never had children of her own, but was blessed with nine nieces and nephews and Godmother to three of them. Her oldest brother, Frank gave her the first four, three nephews and a niece. Second brother Sam and sister Mary each blessed her with a niece and nephew. Last but not least, youngest brother Tony was honored to give her the last niece. These nine nieces and nephews have gone on and now she is Great Aunt Frances to ten great nieces and nine great nephews. These nineteen are also continuing on with more children. Everyone listed was touched some way or taught something by Aunt Frances. Whether it be cooking, baking, listening to her continually speak Italian or just being colorfully entertained and enormously loved by her. Of all the children, the one closest to her and referred to as “like a daughter” is her niece and caregiver Goddaughter, Jennie Marie (Craig) Young. There was a bond shared by them that began in the same home both were raised in. A bond never to be broken. Everyone has their own memories and antidotes about Aunt Frances. Because of her many nieces and nephews, she was always referred to as “Aunt Frances” and thus became Aunt Frances to scores of others. God bless and love you, Zia Chiccina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Paterniti whom she married on April 24, 1965 in St. James Catholic Church and who died on August 3, 1976, two brothers, Samuel and Frank Buttafarro and by a sister, Mary Buttafarro Beswick and a nephew, Thomas A. Buttafarro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. John Kuhlmann, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. You may send condolences to the family by visiting www.huebrtfuneralhome.com.
