Obituary of Serafina Caprino

Serafina Caprino, 95, of Jamestown, NY passed away peacefully Friday, September 20, 2024, in her home surrounded by family. She was Born in Mirto, Sicily March 23, 1929, the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Antonina Mangano Lopresti. On November 13, 1952, she boarded a ship in Naples with a 1-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son and made the journey across the Atlantic to meet up with her husband who came some months prior. They arrived at Ellis Island on November 26 and from there, made their way to Jamestown. Once in Jamestown, she and her husband had three more children and worked endlessly to provide them with the best upbringing they could have. She was a faithful and dedicated communicant of the Saint James Catholic Church for 72 years. She loved being surrounded by her family, friends, and eventually grandchildren as well as great grandchildren. She loved to knit and baked more bread than most bakeries. God and Family were the two things most important to her in life. She was an amazing Italian cook and worked tirelessly providing magnificently prepared meals and caring for her family throughout her entire life. She was immensely proud of her family and especially of the fact that she had 24 grandchildren including great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband Umberto (Albert) Caprino on October 30, 2007. Surviving are her five children Antonino/Tony Caprino of Rochester, Antonina/Nina (Russ) Bell of Jamestown, Gelsena (Michael) Smith of Sellersburg, Indiana, Albert (Sarah) Caprino of Rochester, and Joseph (Marie) Caprino of Niagara Falls. Her grandchildren Russel Bell, Jamie Bell, Jonathan Bell, Jennifer Theobald, Corey Smith, Gabriel Caprino, Josiah Caprino, Claressa Caprino, Amy Caprino, Albert Caprino Jr., Vincent Caprino as well as her great grand children Tyler, Adrianna, Drake, and Spencer of Lakewood, NY, Colin of Jamestown, NY, Joseph, Elijah, Olivia of Albany, IN, Izabella, Serafina, and Lucy of Sellersburg, IN and Cameron and Clarie of Hilton, NY. The family would like to thank the many aides that were by her constant side daily for the past several years. A visitation will be held on Monday September 23 from 3:00PM – 7:00PM at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home.
