Obituary of Larry J Magiera

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Larry Magiera, 80, of Heritage Green, passed away October 14, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on January 22, 1943 to parents Henry and Mary Magiera in Salamanca NY. Larry was a graduate of Salamanca High School. He married the love of his life, Gloria (Oakes) on February 10, 1962. Larry is survived by wife Gloria, his children Larry (Wendy) of Baldwinsville NY, Bob (Kathy) of Salamanca, Dean of Salamanca, Angie (Ron) of Warren PA, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and more on the way Larry worked hard to provide a really nice life for his family. He worked at Central Lanes in Salamanca, Fancher Furniture in Salamanca, Dresser Rand in Olean NY and St. Mary’s Foundry in St. Mary’s Ohio. While he started as a pin setter at Central Lanes and remained the head mechanic there for many years, he was widely regarded as an outstanding pattern maker for most of his adult, working life. His family recalls many dinners when the phone would ring and he and his ponytail would take that short drive-up Central Avenue to the bowling alley to fix a machine before the leagues started for the night. He loved fishing, boating, camping, music, working with his hands and his tools, and spending time with family and friends. His prized stuffed muskie followed Larry and Gloria around as they moved several times over the years. Larry was amazing at woodworking and completed countless projects, most of them in response to Gloria saying "Lar, it would be great if ...". He was a fun, loving, caring and great husband, father and all-around nice guy. He made countless friends and left many people with great memories, right up to his last days. Arrangements entrusted to Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home. There are no services planned. A private celebration of life will be held at a future time. Heritage Green in Greenhurst, NY was home for the last part of Larry's life. In recognition of the excellent care he received from their wonderful staff, the family requests considerations at https://www.heritage1886.org/giving or Heritage Ministries, Development Office, 4600 Route 60, Gerry, NY 14740 in his name.
