Samuel Vitanza, 91 of Jamestown passed away February 3, 2022 at UPMC Chautauqua. He was born September 25, 1930 in Portland, Ny a son of Carmelo and Angelina Vitanza. After graduating Jamestown High School in 1948 Sam enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was assigned to the 502nd band Keesler A.F.B Biloxi, MS from 1948-1952. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force Sam went to Medical Laboratory School at the Carnegie Institute, Cleveland, OH. Sam then went to work in the hospital laboratory at Tri County Hospital in Gowanda, NY and Olean General Hospital for over 13 years. Sam went back to school and was a 1969 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Sam worked until his retirement in 1992 at Eckerd Drug Store. Sam was a student of God’s Word. He liked to work around the house and play some golf. Sam is survived by his loving and caring wife, Joyce Vinton Vitanza who he married in 1969 and his brother, Sebastian “Bud” Vitanza of WV. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his siblings, Connie Smrekar, Josephine Vitanza, Mary Kennedy and Carl Vitanza. Visitation will be held Thursday February 10, 2022 from 12:30pm-1:30pm at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1:30pm at the funeral home.
