Obituary of Susan Spillane
Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Susan Ann Michaels Spillane, “Grammy Susie” (79), of Jamestown passed away June 7, 2021. She was born March 30, 1942 to Ernest and Hazel Michaels and grew up on Moon Road in Jamestown with her siblings, Bruce and Janet. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Maury Spillane. Their relationship and love for each other is enduring and inspiring. Susan was a graduate of Falconer High School and upon graduation moved to Washington DC. While raising their family she also worked for the Charles County Board of Elections, ran an independent business and volunteered for the American Cancer Society. Upon retirement, she and Maury returned to Jamestown. She joined and worked at the Unitarian Church for 20 years and spent her free time with family and friends.
Throughout her life, Susan loved her children and grandchildren, as well as her dogs and cats. She also loved her time with her close friends and her golf buddies. She enjoyed summer weekends on the porch of the Lenhart enjoying a rocker and watching the sunset with her family recalling the week’s events. Susan was strong willed, strong opinioned and passionate about her beliefs and wonderful to converse and debate with a glass of wine. She was a talented, creative, and gifted woman with a knack for decoration. She brought a lifetime of joy to all of those that she spent time with and will be sorely missed.
She leaves behind a legacy of family and love. Surviving are her three children: Mark (Gayle) Spillane of Winston-Salem, N.C., Matt (Kim) Spillane of Bemus Point, N.Y., Mary (Jason) Modlin of Allison Park, PA.; eight grandchildren Heidi, Ariel, Cassie, Hazel, Tristan, Grace, Lucy, and Sam; two great grandchildren, Connor and Stella: her brother Bruce Michaels of Jamestown; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements entrusted to Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. In lieu of flowers or memorials, honor her memory with the moments you shared with her and think fondly of the great times that were had. A unique and amazing woman; a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose legacy will be carried forward by all that she touched.
