Joan Mary Mulcahy Prior Whitmore, 96, of Jamestown passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022 surrounded by family. Joan was born June 1, 1926 in Buffalo, NY. She resided with her oldest daughter in Jamestown. Joan enjoyed doing word searches, reading, speaking with her daughters on video messenger, playing scrabble, and crocheting. Joan was a sports enthusiast; she especially enjoyed watching Buffalo Bills football and Mets baseball. Joan was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. She was so proud of her family. Joan would send no less than 75 birthday cards a year. She had a giving heart and enjoyed donating to charities that made a difference in children’s lives. Joan spent 18 years at the senior citizen high rise starting out as one of the youngest residents assisting with security and many activity nights. Joan is survived by her son Douglas (Patricia) Whitmore, daughters Kathleen (Charles) Centi, Karin Stetson, Linda (George Sr.) Fuller, Valerie (Dennis) Jose, Darlene (Ted) Lewis; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by nine siblings, a son and 2 grandsons. We will miss mom/grandma/Joan dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with her. We will always feel her presence in our hearts. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves memories no one can steal.” Arrangements entrusted to Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27th at St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will not be observed. Private burial will be at a later date.
