Roger K. "Mr. Sam" Slattery, 82, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday (July 5, 2017) at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born in Lockport, NY on September 1, 1934 the son of Roger L and Kathryn Claude Slattery. Roger was employed as a greeter at Sam's Club since they opened and was previously employed at Philips Lighting in Warren, PA. He was a graduate of Lockport High School and Colgate University where he received honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was a member of Ingjald Lodge #65, Mt. Moriah Lodge #145 and the Grotto. Roger enjoyed playing the accordion and sailing and swimming. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Slattery whom he married on May 3, 1985 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a daughter, Gwen (Bogdan) Savych, Cambridge, MA., step children, Marlene (Michael) Lucas, Jamestown and Janet (Brian) Carlson, Busti, seven grandchildren, Solomiya Patricia Savych , Cambridge, MA, Nicholas (Katie) Lucas, Heather Carlson and Christopher (Shelly) Carlson and Elizabeth Lucas, Jamestown, Kathryn Carlson, Busti and Cymberly Carlson, Panama. Four great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Todd Slattery and a sister, Shirley Jenkins. A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tara Lamont Eastman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services 111 S. Main St., Jamestown NY.
