Penelope Ellen Smith, 75, of Ashville, NY, passed away on January 19, 2017 in Heritage Green Rehab Center. She was born in Dearborn, Michigan on March 12, 1941, the daughter of Evelyn Larson-Waterman and James D. Waterman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gary Waterman, sister Kathy Waterman, her husband William H. Smith, and her companion William Cramer. She is survived by her sister Linda Lindquist of Stow, NY, her children, sons Michael W.H. Smith of Bernice, LA, Randy L.J. Smith (Raena) of Ashville, NY, daughters Laurie A.B. Johnson (Rex) of Watts Flats, NY and Judy E. M. Smith of Watts Flats, and eight step-children that she thought of as her own. Her grandchildren are Kimberly Johnson of Watts Flats, Katie Froman (Tom) of Panama, Kayla Bergman (Joe) of Jamestown, Justin and Siarra Smith of Colorado, Candice Smith of Bernice, LA, and Wyatt Eggleston of Watts Flats. Eight great-grandchildren are Landyn and Mason Moore, Emma and Ethan Froman, Evelyn and Axel Bergman, and Eli and Sam Frith. Many she has many step-grand and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Chautauqua Central School. She spent many years traveling with her family then became an area resident for the last 40 years. She spent her time as a homemaker. Her greatest passion was her family, especially spending time with all her grandkids. She enjoyed gardening, fussing over her flowers and cooking. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to many. Following Penny's wishes, there will be no funeral service. She wanted a remembrance celebration at the convenience of her family.
